Here's just a small sample of some events going on throughout Western New York this weekend:
JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Journey to a Cure Gala - Saturday, January 26th at the Hyatt Regency Hotel - Scott Levin will be the emcee for the Gala. They are expecting over 700 in attendance. Festivities begin at 5:30pm and a live auction at 8pm. This year's Journey to a Cure Gala celebrates the wonders developed by the medical community - from doctors and nurses to inventors, scientists, researchers and engineers working together for diabetes. Bank of America will be presented this year's "Living and Giving" award.
Penguin Run - 11 am Sunday, January 27th - this annual 5K run walk benefits Cradle Beach. It's going to be a cold one this year!! They are expecting over 500 runners/walkers to participate. The race begins and ends at Classic's V on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst. Our own Heather Dubois will be participating! The race begins at 11am and is followed by a post race celebration at Classics V. Proceeds benefit Cradle Beach Camp serving children with special needs and those who are economically disadvantaged.
Also Check Out Hunger Kicks off this weekend- This is a campaign to benefit The Food Bank of WNY - local participating grocery stores will be asking customers to add $2, $3 or $5 dollars to your grocery bill to benefit the Food Bank of WNY. Since 1993, the Check Out Hunger campaign has raised $6.9 million, which has enabled the Food Bank to distribute 497,753,371 pounds of food, proving 41,461,142 meals to the less fortunate in our community. This year's participants include Dash Markets, Lexington Cooperative, Market in the Square, Tops Friendly Markets and Wegmans.
