Fresno, CA (Sports Network) - Malik Story scored 24 points and Deonte Burton
netted 22 more to lead the Nevada Wolf Pack as they defeated the Fresno
State Bulldogs, 68-61, in a Mountain West Conference tussle at the Save Mart
Center.
Burton and Story combined to make 23 free throws for Nevada (10-7, 1-2 MW) as
it snapped a three-game losing streak. Jerry Evans, Jr. grabbed 11 rebounds
and finished just one point shy of a double-double in the win.
Fresno State (7-10, 1-3) fell as Tyler Johnson paced the squad with 16 points
on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. Kevin Foster chimed in with 15 points,
Kevin Olekaibe scored 10, and Jerry Brown pulled down nine boards in the
Bulldogs' third loss in four games.
Both sides struggled to get it going offensively in the opening 20 minutes.
Nevada hit just 35 percent of its field goal tries while the Bulldogs managed
to sink just 32 percent of their shots from the floor. The Wolf Pack converted
12-of-14 attempts at the charity stripe before the break to take a narrow,
28-27 lead into halftime.
Although Fresno State improved to shoot 41.4 percent from the field after the
break, Nevada extended its advantage on the scoreboard by sinking 18-of-23 at
the free throw line in the second half.
The Wolf Pack were guilty of only seven turnovers and held a dominant, 30-12,
lead in free throw scoring.
