BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Sabres are moving with break-away speed on planning for their $123 million dollar HARBORcenter project for the Webster block near Buffalo's waterfront and the First Niagara Center.
The combined facility will blend office space, retail, hotel, and of course hockey with indoor hockey rinks.
Team officials say the focus has been intensified without the games on ice.
"It's kind of bonded us together as a whole organization around the team and everything else," Sabres Chief Development Officer Cliff Benson said. "If there was anything good about the lockout, it's the fact that we had so many people involved in the Harbor center project that otherwise have a lot of duties. As far as where things are. They're in great shape."
Team officials say everything still points to a March groundbreaking and September 2014 for the main structure complete with indoor hockey rinks. The hotel portion should be finished in the spring of 2015.
Details with the city sale of the property and planning board are being finalized.
