AMHERST, N.Y. -- The months-long battle over a proposed 6-story Hyatt Place Hotel continues tonight with more than 100 residents expected to pack into the Amherst Zoning Board of Appeals meeting.

The hotel would sit just behind the Lord Amherst Hotel in Snyder right by where Main Street meets Interstate 290.

Iskalo Development is asking for 9 area variances to the zoning ordinances. Residents say the requests show the developer is trying to build too large a hotel in too small a space.

One of the variances would allow Iskalo to install an architectural feature to the top of the proposed hotel that would increase its total height to 77 feet. The ordinance only allows 65 feet in height on that property.

Iskalo says it would simply be architectural and would only impact the eastern portion of the building that faces Interstate 290. Residents on the western side just across a pond argue otherwise.

Iskalo is also asking for variances regarding parking space sizes, landscaping, sound barriers, and signage.

2 On Your Side will be at the meeting and will have the latest on Channel 2 News Tonight at 11.
