BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo Sabres will be dropping the puck for real this weekend. The first home game is Sunday afternoon at 12:30, right here on Channel 2 and NBC.
But, Monday night, 10,000 fans showed up to see the players scrimmage at First Niagara Center. It's a sign that Western New York hockey fans are geared up for this 48 game, lockout shortened season.
Sabres President Ted Black says team owners Terry and Kim Pegula remain committed to putting a great team on the ice and an experience like none other off the ice which included a fifty percent off sale on all merchandise at the Sabres store.
When individual game tickets went on sale Sunday during a presale period for current season ticket holders.
"The demand blew all sales figures away," said Black. "We did three times the volume on a normal presale. It blows us away and makes us humble and grateful. We have such incredible fans in Buffalo."
The fifty percent off sale at the sabres store is on every piece of merchandise in the store, not just selected merchandise. That sale runs through their first home game next Sunday.
