BUFFALO, NY-- The Erie County Health Department is making a plea to residents that if you think you have the flu, do not go to the emergency room.
ER's across the country are over-crowding to the point that some hospitals have canceled surgeries due to a lack of beds.
It is also highly contagious and will spread to those in the ER for other reasons.
"It's important to contact your primary care physician if you are concerned about your or your child's Flu symptoms" said Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein. "Emergency Departments should be utilized for emergencies, and typically flu can be treated at home."
Flu is now widespread in 41 states, including New York. It's one of the worst flu outbreak's we've seen in recent years.
