ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. -- The ski slopes are now open for the 2012-2013 season at Holiday Valley resort.
At 8:30 a.m. Saturday, the first skiers took to the 4 slopes that are now open. The resort hopes to have more slopes open in the coming days.
Crews at the resort have been working around the clock to make artificial snow. Holiday Valley recently purchased new snowmaking equipment.
The resort is also celebrating the grand opening of its new lodge. The $12 million, 66,000 square foot facility replaces the old lodge, which is 50 years old.
The new lodge has two bars, food areas, a coffee shop and equipment rental facilities.
Jane Eshbaugh, marketing director for Holiday Valley, spoke with Channel 2's Michael Wooten on Daybreak Saturday. You can see that interview in the video player.
