GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. -- Police on Grand Island are investigating an accident involving a pedestrian.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office says 23-year-old Joshua Khreis was driving south of Stony Point Road near Whitehaven Road around 8 p.m. Friday when Khreis struck 62-year-old Stephen Turner.

Investigators say Turner had gone to his vehicle and parked along the southbound lane to get some belongings. Police say after Turner got his belongings from his vehicle, Turner stepped into the southbound lane, where he was struck by Khreis.

We're told the victim was thrown 60 feet.  He was conscious when Mercy Flight flew him to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

Police say that Turner is currently listed in serious condition at Erie County Medical Center. Police say the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
