Attempted Child Abduction at Seaway Mall

WELLAND, ON., CA - Niagara Regional Police are looking for an attempted kidnapper after they say a 5 year-old boy escaped from him at the Seaway Mall in Welland, Ontario Sunday.

Investigators say the mother and father were Christmas shopping with their in the toy section of Zellers at the Seaway Mall around 2 p.m. Sunday when the mother felt a tugging on her grasp of her son.

The child's father caught up with the man and turned him over to Zeller's management, who then escorted him out to the parking lot.

The boy was not hurt.

Police say the suspect fled on foot southbound toward Woodlawn Road.

Niagara Regional Police have released the following description of the suspect:

  • White, Male
  • 6' feet
  • About 220 lbs
  • Short brown hair, clean shaven

Police say the man was last seen wearing a light brown camouflage baseball hat, a blue shirt, a green fleece jacket and blue jeans.
