Toy Drive at Jimmies Pizza through December 16th

Buffalo, NY - The season of giving can be especially stressful if you can not afford it, but there are good neighbors trying to help.

When a local small business owner became a father, he found himself thinking about struggling families at Christmas time. So, Jimmy Butera's been collecting toys at his pizza shop for five years now. He says, "Every Christmas morning, I can feel it, and it's a good feeling to know my efforts helped dozens of other kids have a good Christmas."

He's now working with the Town of Hamburg Youth Bureau to get all the toys collected at Jimmies Pizza to local children.

Town of Hamburg Director of Youth, Recreation and Senior Services Mark Denecke says "With the economy the way it is, more and more we see families in need. We have a kids closet with clothing.... more and more people are taking advantage of that with slightly used clothing we have, and the toy program participation has increased. And there are qualifiers so that people truly are in need when they apply for the program."

You can help by giving a new, unwrapped toy for a boy or girl of any age. Jimmie's Pizza is also offering 25% off a large pizza with a donation of any toy. The Town is also collecting toys at Town Hall, the Hamburg Receation Office, the Hamburg Senior Services Office, the Hamburg Fitness Center, and the Hamburg Ice Arena.

In Hamburg, you can apply for toys by calling the Town of Hamburg Youth program at 826-2226 or the recreation office at 646-5145.

The town is working with the Western New York Holiday Partnership through the United Way.
This program includes other parts of Western New York.

You can contact the United Way about the program by calling 211 or 888-696-9211.
