Buffalo, N.Y. - If Gary Bettman is the NHL Commissioner then you could say that Delaware North owner Jeremy Jacobs is the man behind the throne.

Here's Jacobs resume:

* He's owned the Bruins for 37 years

*He heads the Board of Governors

* He's worth 2.7 billion dollars

Jacobs is one of the NHL's hard line owners, pushing for more and more concessions from the players.

Boston sports reporter Joe Haggerty says Bruin fans should hold Jacobs "personally responsible" for the fact that there's no hockey.

Haggerty wrote that "Jacobs Buffalo-sized ego is looking for a dramatic one sided win against the players."

Joe Haggerty: "I think he used to winning, just like a lot of other people in that boardroom are multi billionaire businessmen. It leads to the owners flexing their muscles sometimes and I think that's what's going on right now."

Scott Brown: "Would you say for Jacobs this is about squashing the players or is it a concern for the league's future health?"

Shawn O'Rourke, Sports Management professor Canisius College: "I think it's about having the league healthy so they don't have to go through this every five or six years that's probably been the biggest overall criticism of Bettman's reign. It wears people out so I think he's looking for a long term deal. In terms of what's the right business model to where we don't have to do this over and over again."

Joe Haggerty: "When he speaks in the boardroom everybody listens and since we're not playing hockey and a lockout is going on, it doesn't take a math professor to figure out the calculation."

Scott Brown: "Do you think any deal can get done without his assent?"

Shawn O'Rourke: "No he definitely needs to check off on it."
