LOCKPORT, N.Y. -- The G.M. plant in Lockport is marking an environmental milestone.
The facility has achieved landfill-free status by reusing, recycling or converting to energy all waste from its daily operations. While the plant manager Patrick Curtis is extremely proud of this accomplishment, he says they are not done.
"We're going to continue to look at ways to improve recycling and reusing. Okay, there are still some things that we send out that are burned for energy, but what we want to do is completely get to reuse and recycle if we can," said Curtis.
Employees also help the environment outside of the plant, by volunteering for Erie Canal cleanup activities and hosting with the county an electronics recycling day for residents and small businesses.
