BUFFALO, NY -- It may be a bit deceiving since we did not have the massive rush of people at most local stores, but it turns out the long weekend of shopping paid off for retailers.
Overall, it was a very successful weekend for retailers. The holiday weekend brought in a staggering, $59.1 billion, according to the National Retail Federation.
Moving Black Friday to Thursday proved to be pretty profitable.
According to the NRF, more than 35 million people shopped on Thanksgiving. That is six million more than last year.
Sandy Gingerich of Eric Mower & Associates said the successful shopping season will likely continue right up until Christmas. She tells us, "I'm interested to see what will happen, because yes, I think this past weekend was quite successful, I think we'll see a number of retailers report great results and feel like they're on their way to a good season."
