BUFFALO, N.Y.- Just as the temperature started to drop and furnaces around Western New York started to click on, the unthinkable happened at the Response To Love Center on Buffalo's east side.
The furnace that had kept the one hundred and seven year old building warm for decades finally gave out. For all of the area needy who use the center to get a warm meal, or to take a GED class this could mean trouble in the cold days ahead.
A woman with faith, Sister Mary Johnice, who runs the center, put out the word and within days western New Yorkers have answered. So far, close to $20,000 of the estimated $50,000 dollar cost to replace the furnace has been raised.
However help is still needed to raise the rest of the money. In the meantime, the vital programs the center provides to the community are still going on and work is being done to insure they are able to continue until the furnace is replaced.
Update: As of Saturday afternoon, the Response to Love Center has raised $23,892.00 toward funding a new furnace. The organization will need close to $50,000 to meet their goal.
