WEST SENECA, NY - Big box stores saw a big rush of Black Friday shoppers again this year, but the long lines were not at the typical times.
"At 8 pm the lines were well over 500 people deep," says Jim Hinton, Kmart Store Manager. "Sales were phenomenal and the customers were fantastic all night long."
But an hour before his West Seneca Kmart opened for a third time in 24 hours -- the line was only 50 shoppers long.
At the Best Buy store on Niagara Falls Boulevard the line was hundreds deep for its midnight opening, and the first person in line arrived at 5:00 on Wednesday evening.
But just a few hours after opening the crowds disappeared.
A few years ago, showing up at 3 a.m. meant you were late to the game and probably missing out on what you stood in line for.
On the new Black Friday, however, the morning was the calm after the shopping storm.
