The event, which sold out on November 12th, broke last year's attendance record by 800 people.

Jed Christiansen, 25, of Greenville, P.A., finished first in the men's overall category in 24 minutes, 01 seconds.

Jacklyn Rzepecki, 34, of Rochester, Michigan,  finished first in the women's overall category in 28 minutes, 17 seconds.

New this year, organizers also held a costume contest. Lisa Welch from St. Catherine's who came dressed as a turkey won the individual costume category and the best group costume was a team dressed as the cast from "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom."

According to the Buffalo Niagara YMCA, the race is the largest of its kind in Western New York as well as the oldest consecutively run footrace in North America.

The YMCA and the Food Bank of WNY are also collecting items for needy families across Western New York.

Participants were encouraged to bring two cans of non-perishable items with them to race packet pickup to help those in need. The groups hope to collectively raise 6,000 meals this year.

Local YMCA branches will be accepting donations until Monday, November 26.
