GRAND ISLAND, NY -- Linda Smith and her boys lost everything in a fire a few weeks ago. Their Grand Island apartment burned down and the single mom did not have renters insurance.

We shared their story with Western New York. As they always do, Western New Yorkers came through and helped this family in a big way.

From the staff and students at Grand Island High Schoo,l to kids in Orchard Park, people gave what they could. Linda sifted through the rubble to find whatever keepsakes might be inside the burned out shell. She did find some pictures and art work.

Linda didn't realize that she would be getting some help on that Sunday morning attempt to find some treasures. Members of the community who do not even know the family showed up to help.

In all, the community has raised thousands of dollars for the Smith/Ray Family as well as some gifts. The family is very grateful for the support. You can still help, too. You can make a donation to the Ray Family Fund at any M&T Bank branch.
