BUFFALO, NY-The death of a seven-week old baby boy is now being investigated by Buffalo Police as a homicide.
Police spokesperson Mike DeGeorge says rescue crews were called to a Heath Street home the morning of November 10th for a report of a baby not breathing. Northeast District officer Derrick Banaszak was first on the scene and started CPR until Buffalo Fire arrived and rushed the baby to Sisters Hospital.
The infant was transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit at Women and Children's hospital where he was placed on life support and ultimately succumbed to his injuries five days later.
An autopsy showed the baby's death was due to blunt force head injuries with a high probability that they were caused by shaken baby syndrome. The exam also found evidence of brain damage, hemorrhaging and spinal column injuries.
No arrests are reported at this time.
