BUFFALO, NY - A dispatcher with Rural Metro ambulance who just happens to be a Long Island native is finding out what most of us have known for years, that Buffalo really is the city of good neighbors.
Matthew Tyree's father lost everything during Hurricane Sandy.
His island park home filled up with over three feet of water and everything was destroyed. When Matthew saw the devastation first hand last week, it broke his heart and he knew he needed to do something for his hometown community.
That's when a he and a co-worker decided to make a difference and gather all kinds of supplies to drive down and distribute them to those in need. A large van that was donated by the teamsters and filled to capacity with pots and pans, jackets, sweatshirts, beds televisions and even cash donations.
Another trailer may be needed as the donations continue to come in.
