New research explores a troubling behavior among many children with autism: the tendency to wander off.
in a survey of more than 13-hundred families with children who'd been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder -- 49-percent said their child had attempted to wander away from home or the family..
many of those had been gone long enough to cause concern, and police had to be called.
62-percent of parents whose kids did this said the experience prevented the family from attending or enjoying activities outside the home.
parents said their kids wandered off with the simple intent of going some place else... not because they were confused or lost.
