ORCHARD PARK, N.Y.- Sweet Home dominated West Seneca East 28-7 to roll on to its sixth straight Section VI Class A championship.
#13 Khalil Humphrey marched his way for 126 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns to continue the Panthers impressive 60-game winning streak over Western New York opponents. Quarterback #10 Mike Torrillo was 14-22 for 208 yards and two touchdowns.
Humphrey got the scoring started for Sweet Home with a 12-yard scamper on the first play of the second quarter. After a missed extra point the Panthers had a 6-0 lead.
West Seneca East would then give Sweet Home points after a high snap went over #11 Andy Smigiera's head on a punt attempt and into the back of the end zone resulting in a safety to put Sweet Home up 8-0.
The Panthers would make the Trojans pay on their next offensive possession. After gaining the ball at its own 45 yard line, thanks to the kickoff after the safety, quarterback #10 Mike Torrillo hit #9 Calvin Martin on a 12-yard receiving touchdown with 2:32 left in the second quarter. Sweet Home took a 15-0 lead into the half.
The domination would continue in the third quarter as quarterback Torrillo connected with #7 Carter Mann on a 7-yard touchdown pass to give the Panthers a 22-0 lead.
West Seneca East finally got on the board with 2:20 left in the third quarter when #10 Scott Ackerman battled for a 22-yard rushing touchdown to make it 22-7 and keep hope alive.
Khalil Humphrey wasn't finished tearing up the Trojans defense though as he found his way into the end zone on a 37-yard run with 11:27 left in the fourth quarter to give Sweet Home a 28-7 score. That score would hold up until the end of the game when Sweet Home players would storm the field in celebration, a familiar site at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
West Seneca East's undefeated season came to an end as they finish the season 9-1. Smigiera finished the night 9-19 for 71 yards.
Sweet Home remains unbeaten at 10-0 and will continue to the Far West Regional next weekend at All High Stadium.
