Dick Gallagher shares his thoughts, opinions, takes, and picks on the happenings surrounding WNY High School Football in week 6 of the regular season:
Booster Club Presidents of the Week: John Lamb, Depew; Lynn Trathen, Southwestern
Best Uniform: Williamsville South
Best Cheerleaders: Hamburg
Best Dressed Coaches: Clarence
Best Game Program: West Seneca East, Canisius
Interesting Item: The Canisius vs. St. Joe's game was suspended from 1932 to 1947 due to the heated nature of the rivalry. The series was reinstated under order from the bishop of Buffalo in 1948.
College football recruiting night for seniors only (class of 2013) is scheduled for Tuesday, December 4th in the Buffalo Bills field house. Beginning at 6:00pm. I suggest you bring copies of game DVDs and transcripts to give to division II and division III coaches. Contact Len Jankiewicz at 684-3946 for additional information.
After 8 games, Maurice Howie, South Park junior quarterback, has thrown for 1805 yards and 20 touchdowns while rushing for 398 yards and 5 touchdowns.
The record for the City of Buffalo teams after 8 weeks is 19-45. No city team advanced to the sectional semi-finals as a result of McKinley and Burgard losing.
Freshmen of the Week: Jake Fuzak and Jake Huber, Williamsville South
Sophomore of the Week: Zach Panebianco, Jamestown
Juniors of the Week: Qadree Ollison, Canisius; Dan Bronson, Lockport; Emaure Williams, Clarence

Daryl Spencer, former All-WNY player from Cleveland, is a freshman wide receiver at Cortland. On Saturday, with less than 2 minutes left, he caught the winning TD pass as the Red Dragons defeated Rowan and improved their record to 6-1.
Sweet Home has the highest per game scoring average at 41.2 points.
Maple Grove has the best defense allowing only 48 points in 8 games or an average of 6.1 points.
Congratulations to the Orchard Park freshmen team on their 8-0 unbeaten season. The Quakers scored 346 points (avg. of 43.8 points).
Alert: There is consideration by representatives from the City of Buffalo public schools to consolidate the current 8 football teams to 4 or 5. More on this later in recap of week 9.
Upset of the Week: Riverside over Lancaster
Best Comeback of the Week: Fredonia over Allegany-Limestone, Lockport over Clarence
Best Rushing Team: Springville
Best Fans: Fredonia and Lockport
Cross training football are connected with 42 schools this season including the League Champions in Class AA, A, and B. Quite a remarkable record.
Oddity: In the St. Mary's vs. St. Joe's game, both quarterbacks were the sons of the head coach. Dennis Gilbert, Jr. at St. Joe's and Justin Hersey at St. Mary's.
Modified Player of the Week: Anthony Maniscalco, Williamsville North. For the season, the former Spartan has scored 4 touchdowns, recorded 5 interceptions is an excellent blocker and defender.
Unsung Player: David Archer, St. Joe's
Correction: Jamestown doesn't have any cheerleaders.
Nickname: Antwaun "Sack Man" Davis, Burgard
Peter Trathen, with 12 tackles, Jesia Hogue, with 10 and Ryan Schutte led Southwestern defensive play in the Trojans loss to Eden.
David Fluellen from Lockport and former All-WNY player is on pace to rush for 1000 yards for Toledo this season. The junior has left the Rockets to a 7-1 record. How could UB let this local talent go to another MAC program? The Bulls play the Rockets this Saturday at home at 3:00pm.
