NIAGARA FALLS, NY - Niagara Falls police are investigating an accident that caused a taxi cab to flip and roll over early Thursday morning.
The accident occurred at about 2:35 a.m at the intersection of 11th Street and Ontario Avenue, according to the Niagara Falls Police Department. The driver and one passenger were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The cab was being driven at a high rate of speed by the 53-year-old driver, a Niagara Falls man. The passenger is a 17-year-old female.
Police could not confirm initial reports that the driver and passenger were thrown from the vehicle, but both are being treated for serious, though not life-threatening, injuries at Erie County Medical Center.
The driver has been charged with driving while intoxicated.
By chance, the accident happened right outside a city fire hall.
