Prostate cancer patients may be able to lower their risk for recurrence by taking aspirin.

Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center studied six thousand men who had been treated for prostate cancer.

About a third of those men took blood-thinning drugs, like aspirin.

They found those patients faced a lower risk of death, cancer recurrence and spread. a more detailed analysis revealed the benefit mostly stemmed from taking aspirin.

Experts say aspirin may stifle the growth of tumor cells in the prostate -- but more research is needed.
