BARKER, N.Y.- 14 year old Tyler Miller was an exceptional athlete, an honor student, volunteer youth football coach and a friend to just about everyone he knew. That is why the Barker community is so shocked and saddened by his sudden death early Saturday.
According to police he fell asleep on the couch and simply never woke up. Preliminary autopsy results were inconclusive, they are now testing further for an underlying heart defect or some other illness that had gone undetected, but right now,it is still a very tragic mystery.
In the meantime, the community has rallied around the Miller family. on Sunday, a vigil drew more than 400 people to the bleachers of the Barker football field. A remembrance flag has flown at the school since the weekend and the Barker JV and varsity football teams will hold special tributes at their games this weekend. Tyler's JV team will be wearing his number on their helmets for the rest of the season.
Calling hours for Tyler Miller are scheduled for Friday 2-4 and 7-9 at the Rutland-Corwin Funeral Home, 1708 Pallister Avenue in Barker. The Funeral is Sunday at 3pm at the Ridgewood Bible Church, 7073 Ridge Road, Lockport.
