AMHERST, N.Y. --Amherst Police say a suspect is in custody after a woman was stabbed inside a Walmart store.
The store where the stabbing took place is located at the intersection of Sheridan Drive and North Bailey Avenue.
Investigators say a 50-year-old woman was stabbed in the back, but only suffered a superficial wound. A good samaritan helped subdue the suspect until police arrived.
That suspect, 61-year-old Edward Grabiarz, faces menacing, weapons, and assault charges.
Grabiarz appeared in Amherst Town Court Thursday morning and pleaded not guilty. Bail has been set at $25,000 or $50,000 bond.
Detectives say Grabiarz did not know the woman he stabbed and don't know why he assaulted her.
