PAVILION, N.Y. -- Two dogs are alive because of a quick thinking neighbor in Genesee County.
When fire officials got to a home on River Road in Pavilion, near the Wyoming County border, heavy smoke and flames could be seen. But that didn't stop neighbor Steven Barnhardt from entering the burning building to alert anyone inside and to save the two dogs he knew were there.
When Steve entered the home he saw the dogs in their cages, they were frightened. That's when he went into action.
"Made noise to make sure no one in the house, got the dogs, said come on boys, came out front door and got out," said Barnhardt.
Barnhardt says he was a little concerned when he saw all the smoke inside and the fear of an explosion entered his mind too.
Investigators still don't know what cause the fire.
