TYLER, TX - The unlikely run by NCCC, to the finals of the NJCAA Division III World Series Championship, came to an end on Wednesday as the Thunderwolves lost to Joliet Junior College 6-5 in 10 innings.
NCCC would have needed to beat Joliet twice in order to win the title of the double elimination tournament. The Thunderwolves had several chances to win on Wednesday, but let 9th and 10th inning leads slip away.
NCCC took a 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth as Kyle Craig singled with two outs to bring home Jake Meehan. Meehan went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for the game.
Joliet would answer with a run in the bottom of the ninth to tie things at 4-4 and send the game to extra innings.
The Thunderwolves would load the bases in the top of the 10th and score the go ahead run on an error.
Again the NCCC lead would not hold up, Joliet would tie the game at 5-5 on an RBI triple and then score the winning run on a sacrifice fly.
