BUFFALO, N.Y. - Greatbatch Inc. of Clarence has announced plans to move its global headquarters in Frisco, Texas.
The company employs around 700 people in Western New York, designing and manufacturing medical devices.
A company spokesperson says four executives will move at first as part of the plan to create the new corporate headquarters.
Despite Buffalo and Western New York's reputation as an emerging community in the medical field, Greatbatch says the Dallas suburb is better-established in the medical device field.
"The Dallas-Ft. Worth metro area is a recognized medical device cluster surrounded by a business community that includes leading medical technology and electronics firms, as well as academic research institutions and industry opinion leaders," said
Thomas J. Hook, President and CEO of Greatbatch, Inc.
Hook told 2 On Your Side the company is committed to the Buffalo area, and he said growth in other markets -- whether it be Texas or outside the U.S. -- could mean more manufacturing positions in Western New York.
Clarence Town Supervisor David Hartzell said he and other local leaders are committed to doing whatever is needed to keep the company's presence here strong.
