NORTH TONAWANDA, NY - The popular mixed martial arts style of fighting was hosted in North Tonawanda Saturday night, while the legality of the pro-version of the sport is still being debated.
The event hosted at the Rainbow Roller Rink was being billed as the first "legally sanctioned" MMA fight in the state in more than a decade, but there's a catch.
While ameteur versions of the competitions are legally allowed, the state still has a ban on the pro sport.
The State Senate passed a law this spring allowing the pro matches, but earlier this month the State Assembly refused to take up the issue for a vote.
