BUFFALO, N.Y. - Karen Shaddock scored 10 goals to lead the Buffalo State (14-6) women's lacrosse team to an 18-10 win against Springfield in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse tournament.
#11 Shaddock added three assists in the win. Her 10 goals and 13 points tie single game records for the Bengals. She also became the first Buffalo State player to score 100 goals in a season. She is currently the leading goal scorer in all of division III with 106 goals this season.
#20 Kendyl Clarkson added two goals and six assists in the win for the Bengals.
Springfield (11-8) actually scored the games first goal, just 36 seconds into the first half to take a 1-0 lead. The Bengals would respond by scoring 10 of the next 11 goals, and took a commanding 14-4 lead at the half.
Buffalo State is playing in the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history. They advance to the second round and will play Trinity (CT) (17-1) on Saturday. The time and location of that game is to be determined.
