BUFFALO, N.Y. - What better way to draw attention to the area affected by colon cancer than to run in your underwear?
It may sound like a silly idea, but the "Undy 5000" 5k race comes with a serious message, and it's coming to Buffalo at the end of the month.
The efforts to bring the family friendly run/walk to the Queen City were started by Tess Fraser, a Tonawanda woman who watched her mom, Barbara, battle stage four colon cancer for nine months.
Also during that time, Fraser contacted the Colon Cancer Alliance and encouraged the group to start a race in Western New York.
Sadly, Barbara Hogg lost her courageous battle with the disease last month, three days after her 59th birthday.
"I know my mom was very proud of the fact we were bringing this event to Buffalo, and when I started this process I never in a million years thought she wouldn't be here for it. That never even crossed my mind," said Fraser.
Fraser and her entire family will participate in the very first Buffalo Undy 5000 in memory of her mom. Fraser is this year's race chairperson.
