Town Of Cambria, NY - It's a brazen crime even under the cover of darkness. Twelve homes on both Shawnee, and Old Shawnee Roads in the Town of Cambria were burglarized early Thursday morning, and sheriff's investigators say the thieves were after one thing.
Hub Wagner is one of victims who woke up early Thursday morning to find out that they were burglarized.
"It's just disheartening. Really because I never expected anything in the 3-years that I've lived here. So that's basically my dilemma," said Wagner.
Someone broke into his garage, and tried to steal his ATV after popping the ignition.
Wagner went on to say, "They jimmied it, got it started, drove it out towards the field in the back of my place and all of a sudden it didn't go any further. Well my battery was dead. So they couldn't take it any further."
Next door, the homeowner told 2 On Your Side someone tried to steal 4-mopeds from inside a shed there. The lock on the door was simply pried off. Across the street, another neighbor Van Brocaty's ATV was almost stolen from his shed only to be found two doors down the road.
"Its like they knew. Its like either they scouted the area or they knew what everybody had, and they went after the certain items," said Brocaty.
Georgiana Kassay told 2 On Your Side a generator worth $1,000 was stolen from her property. She talked about the experience of being burglarized.
"Its a little unnerving. Your move out to the country, you don't expect this kind of thing. So its kind of creepy," said Kassay.
Niagara County Sheriff's investigators spent several hours on Thursday collecting evidence. They even used a bloodhound to try to pick up a scent. Undersheriff Michael Filicetti said this type of crime is very unusual even for them.
"The residents there all did the right things. They had their sheds locked. You know they did everything to prevent it. These people just worked hard at getting in there to get the property," said Filicetti.
The Sheriff's Department has increased their patrols of both Shawnee and Old Shawnee Roads, virtually saturating the area for the overnight hours. If you have any information or was victimized by the burglary, you can reach them at (716)-438-3393 or at (716)-438-3337.
