BUFFALO, NY -- An Inmate at the Erie County Holding Center was arrested for felony assault after he allegedly attacked a sheriff's deputy.
Officials say the incident happened when the inmate, Thomas S. Herrmann, age 48, of Longnecker Street, Buffalo, was returning to the Holding Center from a court appearance on Monday.
They say Herrmann was being escorted back to his cell when he attacked a deputy from behind, who in the process of unlocking a gate.
The deputy was taken to ECMC with a broken nose and neck and facial injuries.
Herrmann will be arraigned in Buffalo City Court.
