There is still plenty of uncertainty as we wait to see how Congressional Districts are drawn up in Western New York, but it seems the former Erie County Executive would like to be on the ballot as a candidate.
Chris Collins told us earlier this year that he might run for Congress, but now his answer regarding his future plans sounds more solid. We caught up with him Saturday at WBEN studios during an appearance on the "Financial Guys" program.
2 On Your Side Photojournalist Terry Belke asked Collins if he plans to run for the possible 26th District Congressional seat against incumbent Democrat Kathy Hochul.
"I'm very interested if the district turns out to be competitive, which is looking more or less like it does today," Collins said. "I have the time to do it and certainly the desire to serve the public and to bring common sense solutions to government, like I did in Erie County. So we'll see where that plays out but it'll be sooner rather than later because of the June primary date."
Democrat Hochul won the special election last year to fill that seat after Republican Chris Lee resigned amidst a scandal.
Iraq War veteran David Bellavia has also indicated he may run for the seat.
