NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario (AP) - A tour boat company that has ferried sightseers to the base of Niagara Falls from the Canadian shore for more than 100 years says the company may soon come to an end.
Christopher Glynn, president of Maid of the Mist Steamboat Co., cast doubts as to whether the company would continue operating this year and into 2014 after learning that the land lease for the tours had been awarded to another company.
He said that Maid of the Mist Steamboat Co. was assessing its position.
The Niagara Parks Commission on Wednesday announced that Hornblower Canada Co. was awarded the lease and the change would take effect in 2014. It was not immediately known how the change would affect operations on the American side of the falls, which operates under separate contract.
