TOWN OF BRANT, NY - A 19-year old man appeared in Town of Brant court Wednesday night after a car crash that left a 14-year old girl dead.
Bradley Maloney was charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. He was arrested and charged in connection with a crash in late January in which Angela Kiem of Hamburg was killed. Keim was thrown from a vehicle that went down an embankment on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation.
We spoke with Maloney's attorney after court Wednesday night about why his client is not being held in jail.
"He doesn't have the means to go anywhere," said Maloney's attorney Anthony Lana. "He's a life long resident of the area. He's never been arrested before. Obviously, there's a purpose for bail, so if somebody shows up for court when they're supposed to, there's no reason to believe here that he is going to be a flight risk."
The case against Maloney was sent to a grand jury Wednesday night to determine if there is enough evidence for it to go to trial.
