Developer offers to buy Small Boat Harbor from NFTA
BUFFALO, NY -- The NFTA Board says it is finally moving ahead with plans to sell off some of its waterfront property in Buffalo. It has accepted a $3.5 million dollar bid from the Bear Development Group, LLC for the Small Boat Harbor. There is also an understanding that the firm will invest more than $15 Million in upgrades for the marina and beach area over the first five years of ownership.
The NFTA identified the principal party behind Bear Development as developer David Pfeiffer of the Man O' Trees construction firm. Acting NFTA Chairman Henry Sloma says Pfeiffer is a boat owner with a lot of resources and a lot of imagination. That may refer to his plans for the improvements at the marina. They include: installation of large boat docks, interior parks, expansion of the restaurant, boat repair and tackle, installation of a sand beach and public fishing docks, dredging of the marina and parking lot repairs and finally construction of an amphitheatre and outdoor movie screen.
The deal also calls for repair of the breakwater at the marina. Sloma says Man O' Trees has handled that work for the NFTA in the past.
Sloma says they hope to complete the deal in the fall so the NFTA will continue to operate the marina for this coming summer season.
Tucker Curtin, who operates the Dug's Dive Restaurant through a lease with the NFTA, says he has spoken with Pfeiffer and is encouraged with the idea of possible expansion of the restaurant.
