AMHERST, N.Y. - Three people have been hospitalized after a Border Patrol vehicle struck a car that was pushed out of it's lane by another car.
According to police, Richard Abwender was traveling west on the 290 when he noticed an emergency vehicle approaching with lights and sirens on. As he made the lane change to move over, he struck a Mitsubishi which was operated by 28 year old Evelyn Terry of Pennsylvania.
The collision caused the Mitsubishi to spin out of its lane. The Border Patrol emergency vehicle then struck the Mitsubishi.
Terry suffered back and abdomen injuries and was taken to ECMC. Her passenger, Robert Brown, 28, also of Pennsylvania, suffered head injuries and was forced to undergo surgery at ECMC.
The driver of the Border Patrol vehicle, Jonathon Gregoire, was transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries.
The I-290 in the westbound direction was reduced to a single lane until police finished their investigation around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
Anyone who may have witnessed this accident is asked to call Amherst Police at 689-1311.
