LEWISTON, NY - Lewiston Police are looking for help finding a hit and run driver who is responsible for a fatal accident on Wednesday night.

It happened at 11:03 p.m. in front of 2235 Mount Hope Rd., on the Tuscarora Indiana Reservation. Police say a man walking on the road was struck by an older model car, possibly white or silver. Police believe the car left westbound and possibly sustained front end or passenger side damage.

Sgt. Frank Previte says immediate following the accident a search for the car started.

"We put out an "APB", or all points bulletin in attempt to locate out last night for the vehicle as well as with surrounding agencies as well. We did, we were able to gather some physical evidence at the scene. We're processing that at this point," said Previte.

Police have identified the victim as Loren Jacobs. He passed away at ECMC from his injuries.

Leona and Rudy Gonzales, neighbors of Jacobs say they knew him for many years.

"The person was a friendly person. Minded his own business, never bothered anyone as far as I know," said Leona.

Rudy added, "He was a good man. Quiet, gentle, kept to himself pretty much."

Lewiston Police ask anyone with information to call 754-8477 or 438-3393.
