LOCKPORT, NY - Lockport Police say they are searching for three people who allegedly tried to steal a ring from a jewelry store.
The incident happened Saturday, February 4, 2012.
Investigators say three suspects, two black males and a black female, entered the store at about 2:00pm and created distractions to separate the staff and to get valuable jewels on top of the counters from within the secured cases.
Officials say that one of the male suspects and the female suspect cut a security cable holding a ring. The cut cable created an alert to the staff and they confronted the suspects.
Employees discovered one of the rings was missing from the display and confronted the woman. She surrendered the ring when challenged by staff and told the staff it must have slipped off her finger into her purse.
The three suspects then left the store.
Police believe the suspects left in a silver or gray Chrysler 300.
Lockport PD is looking to ID the trio and to make other retail stores aware of the activity and suspects.
