INDIANAPOLIS, IN - St. Bonaventure alum Jack Butler was named as one of the six members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2012.
Butler was one of the two seniors committee finalists for this years class. He was a star cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1951-1959 and ranked as the NFL's second all-time leading interceptor when he retired.
Before the NFL Butler was a star performer on the St. Bonaventure football team and graduated from the school in 1951. "Jack Butler from Pittsburgh, Pa., by way of St. Bonaventure University, and here I am. It's really an honor and a privilege," said Butler in a press conference after being voted into the Hall of Fame.
Butler, 83, was given an honorary degree by his alma mater in 2009, was elected to the Bonnies Hall of Fame in 1970.
He joins Curtis Martin, Dermontti Dawson, Cortez Kennedy, Willie Roaf and Chris Doleman in the 2012 Hall of Fame class.
