DEPEW, N.Y. - A Depew resident who was dealing with a flooding problem for the last three years, now has a solution to her problem. It's all because she contacted the 2 On Your Side TipLine for some help.

Laura Matthews told us she was sick and tired of dealing with standing flood waters on her lawn right outside her front door. Even her driveway was just as flooded.

"I would say on the driveway its at least 3 inches. In the standing water on the grass, varies between I would say 6-inches to 12 inches. Somewhere in there," said Matthews.

Some of her neighbors have the same issue on their properties, but it gets worse. Matthews is the only one who had water trickling into her basement.

"On Tuesday of last week it was a faucet," Matthews added.

Fed up with the situation Matthews says she called both Town of Cheektowaga officials, and Erie County officials. She says both sides said the other was responsible. Matthews then reached out to the 2 On Your Side TipLine.

"We pay a significant amount of taxes in this area and we should not have to be dealing with a problem like this," said Matthews.

A few hours after an initial interview with the Channel 2 News, and a few phone calls to the Erie County Highway Department, some progress. A crew was sent out to her street Friday afternoon to find out what the problem was. The Department's Deputy Commissioner David Boehm told 2 On Your Side there was a blockage of the storm drain causing the water to flood. Minutes later the water started to recede.

"It makes me feel good that we have part of the solution, and what the disappointing part is that it took 3 or more years to come to a fix," said Matthews.

The Erie County Highway Department is responsible for Como Park Boulevard and flooding issues related to the roadway. Deputy Commissioner David Boehm said the department will now check the storm drain regularly to make sure there is nothing physically wrong with the pipes or drains.
