Facebook Petition calls for
guardrails on Java Lake Road after fatal accident
Town of Java Highway Department, Wyoming County
JAVA, NY - The recent death of a young woman in an accident in Wyoming County is prompting an on - line petition drive on Facebook which is calling for improvements on a particular stretch of road.
23 year old Erin Pinter was killed on January 16th when her car flipped and went off Java Lake Road in the Town of Java. The vehicle ended up upside down in an icy pond right next to the road. There are actually ponds on both sides of the road at that particular spot which is at a dip in the road between two small hills.
Thousands of people have signed the petition which organizers will turn over to the town. Some are frustrated that it has taken a death to spur some action.
Java Town Supervisor Jim Fleischman says he knows firsthand about the situation because he lives on the road. Fleischman says he has personal concerns about that portion of roadway. He met Thursday with State Senator Pat Gallivan and his staff to determine if there would be any available state funding. Fleischman says the installation of guardrails would require proper engineering on the road.
Fleischman says he is also meeting with Wyoming County officials and the Sheriff to get their input. He is still waiting for the accident report from investigators with the Wyoming County Sheriff's Office to determine the exact details of the accident.
