VALDEZ, Alaska (AP) - The city of Valdez continues to dig out from more than 322 inches of snow this winter.

That's 168 inches above a normal winter snowfall, the National Weather Service said.

City officials say in a release that as of Friday afternoon, 132 people have been recruited to help remove snow from the homes of 25 people in need.

Officials anticipate schools reopening Monday. Classes will be held at the elementary school, with elementary students and high school students splitting half day schedules. School authorities anticipate having the high school reopened by late in the week.

The junior high is open for those in grades 7-8.
