Amber Dixon, Named Interim Supt. of Buffalo Public Schools

BUFFALO, NY -- The Buffalo School Board has selected Cascade Consulting Group to help them select the city's new superintendent.  The firm works in partnership with Say Yes to Education, the non-profit that announced it would be providing free college tuition to Buffalo City Schools students in December.

Last month, 2 On Your Side reported Amber Dixon, the interim superintendent of the Buffalo School District says she's interested in leading the district full-time.

At a January 11th school board meeting, Dixon told the school board she's a candidate for the position of permanent superintendent.

Reporter Sarah Hopkins asked Petrucci: "There seems to be a lot of support here for Amber Dixon, why go with a search firm if you have a good candidate right here in house?

Petrucci: Well, because we'll never know if we have somebody better.  I mean part of the search firm is to search to see who the best candidate is.  It may be Ms. Dixon, but we won't know until we conduct the search."

Dixon has been leading the Buffalo Public Schools since former superintendent Dr. James Williams left at the beginning of the school year.

Board President Lou Petrucci says he expects it will cost around $70,000; he says the board budgeted $100,000 for the search.

Petrucci says he hopes to have a candidate in place by the end of the school year.
