Buffalo, N.Y. - On New Year's Eve, Mark Croce threw one of the biggest formal parties that Buffalo has ever seen.
Unfortunately, it was probably a little too big.
Too many people, and too little staff.
Too many lines, and too few tables.
Add it all up, and some people of the 4,000 people who paid $150 a ticket to attend the Ice Ball at the Statler on Saturday night did not have a very happy New Year's Eve.
Scott Brown: "You had some complaints from folks, what have you learned from the other night?"
Statler Owner Mark Croce: "In retrospect, and as busy as we were and as fun as the evening was for most, we had some hiccups, some learning curves, growing pains and things we could take corrective action for next year. Next year for sure we're going to reduce the number of tickets by 1,000. We're going to make it a smaller, a little more elaborate event, but reduce the overall capacity."
Scott Brown: "For people who did have complaints what can you do to make it up to them?"
Mark Croce: "I think what we're going to do is for anybody that might have had any level of disappointment, we're going to find a way to have either a make up party or throw another complimentary party and say 'hey thank you for your support,' and we want to do something special to make sure you have a great memory of this New Year's. We're going to do something to make sure those folks are invited to come back downtown to celebrate with us again."
On Monday, as the clean up from Saturday's party continued, Croce was already looking ahead- after all the next party is now just 364 days away.
Mark Croce: "We took a lot of notes Saturday night and we're going to make sure the party is absolutely stunning next year."
