BUFFALO, N.Y. - The former director of the Urban Brothers Funeral Home in Clarence Center has been sentenced to five years probation for embezzling $60,000 from his family business.
Mark Urban could have received seven years in prison for his crime. However, New York State Supreme Court Judge Penny Wolfgang said she wanted Urban to pay all the money he embezzled back. The only way he can do that is if he is out of jail and working.
Urban, 41, plead guilty to 2nd and 3rd Degree Grand Larceny in October. Urban worked for his parents at the funeral home on Goodrich Road from 2008 to 2010. During that time, he was writing checks for personal expenses from the business's operating account.
Additionally, Urban failed to report the embezzled funds as income on his tax returns and wrongly received New York State income tax refunds.
