The race was close in the beginning as votes were being counted, but as the night drew on, Poloncarz started to pull away.  Shortly after 11:30 p.m., he took the stage with his supporters at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Downtown Buffalo.

"I want to thank the voters of Erie County for putting your trust in me.  Without each and every one of you in this room and all the voters who placed their trust in me, this night could not have happened," said Poloncarz.

Things were much more subdued at Chris Collins' headquarters at the Rich Renaissance on Niagara Street where the current county executive conceded around 11:25 p.m.

"It's not the night we had hoped for, obviously.  But I can tell you in four years, we have made such a change in this county.  We have succeeded in turning around this county, taking it from a county that was in the worst shape financially.  Today it is in the best shape."

Collins also promised a smooth transition from his adminstration to the Poloncarz administration.
