WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - One Erie County family is remembering a loved on through volunteering for a cause she held very near and dear to her heart.

"We ran around and did everything together, and this is one of the things we did, and this is one of the things that was really important to her," said Kate Blanar of her late Aunt, Mary Stack.

For Blanar and her family, the annual corn roast benefiting the Erico Women's American Legion Post is more than just a fundraiser, it's a chance to pay tribute.

"I think she'd be pleased, she would be very pleased," said Blanar.

Stack, a WWII Navy Veteran, had been a member of the Legion post for more than fifty years before she died last July. For the last ten of them, Kate and her family came along to help her with the corn roast.

"Most families, after their family member would pass away, I would think we would not hear from them again," said Post Commander Suzanne Quirk.

But not the Blanars. Three generations, some as young as three years old, have continued to show up-- to shuck, boil, and roast.

"There's not much you think you can do to help, and this helps," said Blanar. "We come for that."

"Family, the family is what keeps me coming back here, it's a great thing to do for our passed aunt," said Kate's husband, Dale Blanar.

For the aging members of this post, the Blanar's presence makes all the difference.

"It probably makes the difference between us being able to have this fundraiser and not have it," said Quirk. "Because of the work that they are able to do, that some of our members are just no longer able to do."

Something Aunt Mary would have been proud to see.

"She would be very pleased, and I think she would have said, well, that's what I expected, I think I expected you all to show up," said Kate Blanar. "And we would, and we will, and like I said, we'll be here, as long as they continue to have this, we'll be here."
